We are excited about school starting and getting the students back in the classrooms! We are on the 2nd year of our earlier start waiver from the Michigan Department of Education. The first day of school is August 23rd, 2017. The summer has been a productive one and some projects are being completed including replacing the flooring and furniture in needed classrooms and some improvements on the baseball field. Several new laws are in place for this school year including the 3rd grade reading legislation. This year's 1st graders are the first group who will have to test under this law once they reach the 3rd grade. Students who are identified as not being at grade level in reading grades k-3 will have an Individualized Reading Plan starting this school year. This is new and parents will be contacted if this applies to their child. Other changes that have occurred over the summer is that we have contracted all of our technology services through the Wexford Missaukee Intermediate School District. Our former technology director left for another position. Having the ISD perform these services does create a savings to the district and allows for a seamless transition for that department. We have lots of new faces in our district this year. We have hired new teachers in all of our buildings, as well as new support staff.
Again, just an update on hours. The doors will open at all buildings at 8:20 AM. At 8:30 AM, the doors will be locked and anyone wishing to enter will be buzzed into the office. School ends at 3:10. We ask that parents try to not pick up their students early, unless it is an emergency, due to the congestion it will cause in the offices. The last half hour of school is an extremely busy time for the office.
I would like to welcome all parents/guardians to our open house on August 21st from 6:00 – 7:00 PM. I hope everyone has a safe and enjoyable end to summer!
